Whenever I make pakodas for my family, the paneer pakoda remains in top demand as paneer is loved by almost everyone. The best part with paneer pakoda is that they are crunchy from outside with and soft from inside.
Paneer pakora can be enjoyed with tomato ketchup or with homemade green chutney or both. 😛

- Fresh paneer / cottage cheese - 200 gm
- Besan / Gram flour - 1 cup
- Red chili powder - ½ tsp
- Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
- Asafoetida - a pinch
- Salt to taste.
- Water - for making batter
- Cooking Oil - for deep frying
- Chaat masala - to sprinkle (optional)
- Cut fresh paneer or cottage cheese into slices. Keep aside.
- In a mixing bowl take 1 cup gram flour.
- Add ½ tsp red chili powder, ½ tsp cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida and salt to taste.
- Mix well and make a smooth batter using water.
- In a pan heat oil to deep fry paneer pakoda.
- Dip a slice of paneer into the besan/ gramflour batter and add to hot oil and deep fry.
- Similarly continue with other paneer slices.
- Fry till fritters turn golden brown.
- Remove on tissue paper to drain out excess oil.
- Sprinkle chaat masala and serve hot with tea.

Step by step Recipe of Paneer Pakora with photos:
1. Cut fresh paneer or cottage cheese into slices 1 by 2 inches size and keep aside.

2. Take 1 cup gram flour / besan in a mixing bowl.
Â
3. Add spices to the flour. Add 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida and salt to taste.

4. Mix well and make a smooth batter using water. Add water in portions so as to avoid lumps formation. Batter should be of pouring consistency.

5. In a pan heat cooking or vegetable oil for deep frying paneer pakoda. Dip a slice of paneer into the besan / gramflour batter and add to hot oil and deep fry. Similarly continue with other paneer slices.

6. Fry till fritters / pakoda turn golden brown. Or one of the method to check whether pakora are done or not is that you will see reduction in the bubbles near pakora formed.

7. Remove on tissue paper to drain out excess oil.

8. Sprinkle chaat masala (optional) and serve hot with tea.
